After my laptop bit the dust after only a year and a half (!) I’ve switched to a desktop. Decent enough basic tower, 2tb hdd 8gb ram, i3 4170 and crappy geforce 710 (I’m used to integrated graphics though so that’ll be a decent upgrade.) £400 with a wireless keyboard and mouse. Not too bad.

Just throw in a GTX960 or similar-ish and you’re decently up to snuff for games, not a bad choice!

Yeah that was my thought, a decent i3 will play low/mid specs fine when paired with decent graphics. I dont pc game a lot but at least a tower gives me the option of upgrading if I want to. A £400 laptop would be weaker and have less scope to upgrade. Plus I dont need the portability so a pc is a better choice.

This is my current one. The hardware on the left hand side is actually a little out of date since I’ve since added another SSD (500GB Samsung 850 EVO) for program installation besides my main OS drive.

hey how do I complete a build that I set up after I bought all the parts?

Click the “Create a Completed build” button. It’ll then ask you which list you want to use, whatever is currently in your System Build, or one of your Saved Parts lists.

The i3-4170 integrated graphics should actually perform better than a Geforce 710.
Download the Heaven benchmark and run with and without. I’ll bet the integrated graphics win out.

That’s a high end build, sounds mighty good. I have both ps4 and xb1 so I doubt I’ll build up to a gaming pc.

Interesting I always assumed the integrated graphics would be really weak.

In the past they were, and still are compared to higher end graphics cards, however the 710 is just an entry level card.

Yeah I knew the 710 was bad, I just assumed integrated was even worse. I’m a bit of a novice with computers.

And this is my Media Center PC

and three years ago, the 710 would be better, with the release of the HD 3000 Graphics, my old Geforce 9800 was on par with the HD3000

I’ll have to try that test with and without then. See which let’s it run better.

Also a friend who isn’t as dumb as me tells me I have a GT 710 not a standard 710, which seems to benchmark a tad better.

Im just saying, benchmark with and without the card and see which one performs better.

Yeah I'm intrigued now, ill have to give it a go.

Yo, you want in on these computer drugs?
(I’ve always been a desktop guy; don’t think I’ve ever even considered the idea of having a laptop as my only computer. I’ve got one now, but only for the sake of uni work and such. )

I already have some of those computer drugs, they taste bad but I dont overheat anymore. I’ve always had laptops out of convenience but none of then were very good or reliable.
